The Importance of Teamwork in Treating the Pediatric Patient Part 2


Last month I wrote about the importance of teamwork when working with a pediatric patient.

I would like to expand upon those thoughts to further explain the importance of teamwork as we work together to optimize a child’s functional outcome.

Over many years of clinical practice treating infants and children with cerebral palsy and other neuromotor dysfunction, I’ve come to the conclusion that in order to truly maximize a child’s functional outcomes, the most successful teams are those that focus their intervention efforts on specific areas of function.

Certainly there needs to be overlap in regard to therapy activities and treatment strategies that gain the needed mobility in a child’s core and prepare the child’s musculature for the work he/she must learn to do to overcome gravitational forces when actively participating in functional activities.  But it is very important that each team member establishes [Please upgrade your membership to Basic to access this content.
